Emma Louise Winkler is the firstborn of Philip Winkler and Alice Joos, she was born October 28, 1909 in San Francisco, she died January 13, 1972 in San Francisco. She is the oval-faced beauty at right, with brother Edward and little sister Rowena (called "Ree-nee"). Her brother was born on her birthday one year later!
She married Albert Lewis Grimm and, after her father died in 1934, lived at her father's home on Highland Avenue. This is where her twins were born in September 1936, Robert and Jacqueline. Little Jacqueline passed away in 1941, which must have been very hard on the family. When Emmy's sister, Renee married Travis Hale, they adopted a little girl and named her Jacqueline- in honor of the family angel.
We have lots of photos of her growing up and in her adult life, we're just featuring some of the "best" online of everyone so pages upload faster. The black and white photo at right was taken in 1932 of Emmy and Albert- perhaps still courting...
Her daughter-in-law said Emmy and the family perhaps didn't pay enough attention to their use of alcohol because it led to the death of her husband, Albert in 1964. It also led to the death of her son, once he had grown and started a family of his own. There wasn't as much awareness then as there is now, and she thought nothing of keeping it around the house and giving it as gifts -even to those who were 'trying to quit'.
In 1952 she married an Italian musician named Angelo Gattorna up in Reno, Nevada. Her brother, Bud, and sister-in-law Rowena stood with them.
The joy's in the journey of preserving our past while it's still in the present... Come read about our family trees and how we research and preserve them!
