His mother and sisters moved to Marin county around 1918, where he stayed the rest of his life.
He finally married on the 11th of September 1937 to Rowena Ambrose. Their reception was well attended, and they honeymooned in Catalina. He called his wife Row for short. I can still remember the sound of their voices calling each other through the house... One of his parting lines when the grandchildren came to visit was (handing you a quarter) "Here, buy yourself a house and lot."
The river picture below is a favorite of mine, the pure innocence and joy of childhood is bursting out of this sepia tone like the laughter from their faces. Bud is laughing the hardest, sister Renee is on the far right. This would have been taken at the Russian River, Taylor Park, or Baltimore Canyon. The back of the photo has written in Alice's hand "My babies" and she marked them with an X in pencil.
In 1989 on the 7th of December he passed away in his sleep at home. Problems with his heart and lungs due to smoking were blamed.
