I have a copy of a World War I Draft Registration for Carl Sprogis, listed as being born May 27, 1879 and living in Sacramento at 2315 3rd Street with his wife, next of kin, Emma Sprogis. In September of 1918 he was unemployed, described himself as medium height, medium build, with brown hair and eyes and no lost limbs.
The 1920 Census of Assembly District 15 of Sacramento, CA finds at 2315 3rd Street
After Emma passed away, the children had to go live with other Latvian families for a while. The baby must have also died shortly after that last census. Carl did the best he could with business, and we find him in the next census "alone" -with a housekeeper.SPROGIS, CARL; Head of Household

Here in 1930, Carl has a more specific birthplace, is still claiming "Married", though the woman he is living with is not listed as his wife, nor is she listed as married. She is the "Housekeeper", and this is the same year our direct decendant was born. His mother's maiden name was Alice Turb... So what's going on? Is this an error? (probably to extremely likely)
That's the next interesting bit of romance and history...
