Here's an interesting one.
I knew my father's grandmother was buried in Colma, CA (The city with more residents below ground than above) at Olivet Memorial Park somewhere, so I went down there on a Memorial Day weekend a few years back to ask some questions. The staff was incredibly helpful. Just for ducks, I asked if they had any Winklers. They did.
I found Catherine and Frank Ambrose together after a little wandering, made a note of the location, took a picture or two. I wandered a little more to find the Winklers, only to discover they were in such an obvious place I'll never have trouble finding them again. They told me my great grandfather Phillip and g-g-grandparents Henry and Caroline were there, so I was excited to know I was standing that close to them though I'd never seen so much as a picture of them. There were a bunch of other people in there I didn't know, as well, and only time would tell how they fit in. Some had the same last name, but were they sons, nephews, cousins?
Months later I had come across more information for another leap of faith. I compiled a list of people who might have died in San Francisco, or at least elected for burial at Olivet, and faxed it over...
Holy Buckets!
